Here's a couple of silver mounted coconut shell cups that were made for Captain Francis Watlington by W G Forbes. Captain Watlington was a Key West, Florida wrecker (salvager) who operated in the first half of the nineteenth century. Wreckers in their day made Key West one the wealthiest towns in the United States. IP: Logged |

Strong currents and shallow depth make for a great many shipwrecks. Cape Hatteras is another good example. Nice Coconut cups. IP: Logged |

These are extremely rare in American silver. They were, however, not made by Forbes, but by Joseph and TeunIs D. Dubois, who made much of the silver sold by Forbes. The pseudohallmarks are their trademarks. Very nice pieces to find. IP: Logged |
