A coin silver pastry fork marked WWW in a shield and the word coin. The mark doesn't exactly look like a retailers mark but I'm not sure. Any thoughts appreciated. IP: Logged |

That specfic mark was discussed on this forum on something like page 17 or 18 and that's all I can remember about it. IP: Logged |

The one Charles Wendell who was a jeweler that I can find in Chicago was born in Prussia 1831. His youngest daughter was born in New York in 1859, so he probably wasn't in Chicago until some time after that. His sons did become wholesale jewelers though, but not before at least the 1870's. I don't see how it could be Charles Wendell when the mark has 3 W's. Wouldn't the name also have to have 3? IP: Logged |

It seems this was meant to be a possibility of accounting for the father and sons with "W" for each? IP: Logged |
