Hi all, Rummaging through my misc coin box, I found this little gem. A 'premium' master salt spoon by Willard & Hawley, with a 1850 date on the back, along with the word "PREMIUM", and the county... Unfortunately, I cannot make out the spelling of the county, probably due to a contraction, and a little wear. Also, on the front, the winner's last name begins with either a "C" or a "G". Could be either. Any input would be appreciated.. Thanks for your help as always. Marc

Counties in New York state beginning with an 'O' are: Onieda, Ontario, Orange, Orleans, Oswego, Oteogo and the the one that most likely matches yours is Onondaga. They worked in Syracuse NY and Syracuse is in Onondaga county. That is a capital G so it is Gere. I also vote for Onondaga County, especially since the name Gere is a well known name there; in fact, there is a Gere Bank building in Syracuse that is an identified historic building. IP: Logged |
