After a good long time digging, I have been able to add the line of Mr. Bruff to my little project. Besides the old Loyalist, the family included at least 5 other silversmiths: Charles, a London maker My paltry library has neither Maryland reference. If one of our denizens does, I would appreciate any information on the aforementioned smiths. I have quite a lot on Charles, so we'll leave him aside. IP: Logged |

Realizing that you have enough about Charles Oliver Bruff, there is a Charles Oliver Bruff who immigrated to Nova Scotia in 1783 with five children, so would that be the same line? IP: Logged |

Same gentleman -- his New York neighbors did not take kindly to his war activities and he decamped for Canada in 1782. IP: Logged |

Charles Oliver Bruff a silversmith who immigrated to Nova Scotia in 1783 appears to have been born in Talbot County, Maryland in 1735. So this must be the grandson of the London silversmith? From the Secretary of the province of New York's records: October 19, 1763 Charles Oliver Bruff married Mary Letelleer. You'll have to tell if this is the gentleman whose "blanks" you aleady completed. IP: Logged |

Great-great-grandson of Charles, the London silversmith. Great-grandson of Thomas, the immigrant silversmith. Son of James Earle, the Talbot County silversmith. Yes, to reiterate, this is the Charles Oliver Bruff (is there another?) who is well documented. IP: Logged |

Pleasants & Sill have 12 pages on the Bruff family, too much to summarize. I'll have to send you a photocopy. IP: Logged |

The History of Talbot County, Maryland, 1661-1861 has a fair write up on the patriarch of the Bruff family in America and some of the his descendants. There's no doubt more available about such a renowned family. Let me know if there's information needed beyond what Swarter is providing.
