see also: Part I Part II Part III Part V -------------------------------------------- Gerrit Onclebag, SILVERSMITH of New York was charged with Counterfeiting on Nov 3rd 1702. He pled guilty to coining and passing “false Money of base & mixt Metals”. He was fined and promised to be good. Charles Hamilton, the earliest known SILVERSMITH of Poughkeepsie, New York was taken into custody on April 20 or 21, 1761. He had been making counterfeit Spanish Cobs. He was remanded to Gaol and a few days later he was found hanging. He apparently made a noose from his handkerchief and hung himself on a spike on the wall in his cell. IP: Logged |
