Von Kruhm's does not have much about Palmer & Bliss in the subject partnership. It is certain the Palmer's first name was Stephen, and judging by the jewelers found in New York at the time of their partnership, he was Stephen H Palmer who was born in New York in about 1813 and the son of another jeweler Beriah Palmer who was born in New York in about 1787. Bliss remains a mystery, and this may be because he lived outside of the city. [This message has been edited by bascall (edited 03-02-2009).] IP: Logged |

Bliss is likely to be John Bliss, watchmaker. In Longworth's Directory for 1839, he is listed as a partner in Bliss & Creighton at 42 Fulton, but he may have been an associate partner with Canfield at the same time. IP: Logged |

The same information is found in the 1837 New York City Directory published by J Disturnell. I lean towards Elihu. [This message has been edited by bascall (edited 03-05-2009).] IP: Logged |

I have to take back Elihu Bliss as a guess in this partnership. He was in the partnership Bliss & Dwight in Newark at this time. Unless I see something concrete, I still have to go with somebody that was residing outside of the range of the New York City Directory. IP: Logged |
