A little added information about the above named jeweler, listed in Wilson's New York City Copartnership Directory March 1879---Volume XXVII as Churchill, Lewis & Co (William W Churchill, Charles M Lewis, & Frederick Wessel) 180 B'way. IP: Logged |

Here is a basic chronology of the firm's evolution: 1831 to 1848 -- William Bennett North and William Allen Churchill as NORTH & CHURCHILL From the beginning, the various partnerships maintained sales offices in New York City, but the factory remained in New Britain. This is a picture of the employees of CHURCHILL & DANA taken in 1871

Neat picture! Didn't see the Churchill, Lewis & Co partnership in your earlier list, so it seemed worth posting with the reference. Dewitt C Pond is listed in the 1850 U S Federal Census for New Britain, Connecticut in Artemas E Hart's household. Surprisingly, at least so far, Hart does not fit into any of these partnerships. Hart had apprenticed with William B. North and may have stayed on into the Churchill partnerships as a journeyman/worker. IP: Logged |
