I have a silver ladle with 2 stamps "I.ADAM" My one reference book shows the mark as ca 1800 but no other info. Would like to find out any more details concerning this silversmith (American).

I got this information from George Cutten's Silversmiths of Virginia. I don't own it but my library has a copy. I.ADAM was one of the marks used by John Adam. He was born in 1780. His father was an Alexandria silversmith and his cousins were well known silversmiths in London. He was well thought of as a musician and a painter. He had a business on King St. in Alexandria and sold silver imported from New York and Philadelphia as well as making his own. On page 4 there is a picture of a cream pitcher made by him, on page 5, a punch bowl. IP: Logged |
