Just wondering what others think in reference to the now finished auction on that west coast site of a pair of tongs with an Eagle on both arms. The eagle is fairly crudely done but then I am no whizzbang at engraving either. The other engraving on the tongs has a rather somewhat crude appearance so I guess it could be original. If not original then added at a later date by a non professional. I await any responses and once again thanks for any input. IP: Logged |

The Federal Eagle was a popular symbol in the Early Republic, especially in Philadelphia, which was the first capital city. I saw no reason to doubt its originality - too bad it lacked a maker's mark, though. IP: Logged |

I have no problem with them, although I can't say I've seen another. They don't make my heart go pitty-pat, though.... IP: Logged |

They are a curiosity to me but not desirable. IP: Logged |
