George P Tew is listed as a jeweler in the 1850 U S Federal Census for Providence, Rhode Island. In the 1857 Providence Directory George P Tew is listed with Sackett, Davis & Co 51 Friendship. In the 1860-68 Providence Directories George P Tew is listed with Sackett, Davis & Co 31 Richmond. In the 1869-75 Providence Directories, George P Tew is with Sackett, Davis & Co, 58 Richmond. Sackett & Davis Manufacturing Company incorporated in Rhode Island in 1874 with Thomas Davis, Lauriston Towne, George H Sackett, and George P Tew. IP: Logged |

George Potter Tew married Harriet, daughter of Hezekiah Willard, a Providence jeweler. Her brother Alfred, also a jeweler, married Edna, daughter of Edwin Field, who was, to no one's surprise, a jeweler in Providence. IP: Logged |

Edwin Field & Co man'rs watch-cases 43 Canal were listed in the 1854-5 Providence Directory. Gridley Burnham, Simeon Lewis, Richard S Spencer, John W Chambers, Rich'd W Brown and John R Proud were listed as watch-case makers at 43 Canal in the 1854-5 Providence Directory. There's also a Silas M Field, die cutter, as well as a number of jewlers at 43 Canal in the same directory. Silas M Field appears in later directories as a jeweler. Edwin obtained a patent for making watchcases, No 20,942. Alfred H Willard was residing in George P Tew's household in 1860, and Alfred and George were neighbors in 1870.
