Another brother of Japheth's who spent his working life in the jeweler and watchmaker trade was Julius C Cross. IP: Logged |

And did the C after Julius stand for Caesar? Japheth was a son of Noah--I love the idea of such mixed biblical and classical names (this from a Ulysses whose long ago namesake was named by a devout rural Methodist). IP: Logged |

Sorry, I do not know his middle name. When it cames to names for our ancestors, it seems very little was off limits. We seem to limit ourselves anymore to the flavor of the year and celebreties, or is that just my imagination. Julius C and Aviral J (don't know his middle name either), appear together in the 1900 U S Federal Census for Adrian, Michigan as seventy-six and seventy-nine year old respectively jewelers and partners. And their father, Jeduthan, was also a jeweler and early settler of Adrian MI, where he prospered and later established a sizable fortune in real estate speculation. IP: Logged |

There's a biography that was printed in Adrian, Michigan in 1879 that has Jeduthan arriving in Michigan in 1836. If that is true, he must have done well in the few years he had there. Because Japheth had a great grandfather named Noah, I was off on the wrong track with my thinking for quite a while about Japhet being Noah's son, but after mulling the point over, it finally sunk in.
