This mark was sent along to me with a bunch of other mystery marks. It looks to be a modification of the skeletal Dominick & Haff
It is somewhat worn and the picture isn't the best, but I am assured it says J. C and AGT. in the cartouches. It would not be surprising that a firm the size of D & H would have had agents roaming about, but I'm not familiar enough with the company to say if that is what this mark is or if it was common. Can anyone confirm it? IP: Logged |

I suspect this is a strange coincidence, but I do see the similarity to the old Gale/Dominick & Haff mark. I've never seen such an AGT. mark, and don't know if Agent makes any sense. It could just as easily be an abreviation for ARGENT in French (not that I have any reason to say this...). I hope someone else has some ideas, because this is interesting and puzzling. IP: Logged |

There is an old thread about this same mark; do a search for John Cook and Theodore Evans. Cook was an agent for Evans, and I recall seeing the entire thing (Agt. for T. Evans) on a piece years ago. Brent IP: Logged |

Thanks again -- here is the old thread (JOHN COOK MARKs?) I did run across on the web a twist handled knife with this mark inscribed "Alfred Goodrich Badger from his Grandfather" -- Alfred was born 24 Feb 1868 in Brooklyn and was named for his grandfather Alfred Badger of Portsmouth NH.
