wev's American Silversmiths website has been selected for archiving by the Library of Congress. He is rather sanguine about it, but I think it is well deserver recognition of a significant contribution to the cultural history of the nation. Fantastic. It is a monumental effort and the LOC will ensure it is available for generations to come. Once you retire from the project will they carry on; adding marks, making additions and correction, etc.? Will they publicly host the project or will it only be something a few who visit the LOC get to see? Congratulations WEV. IP: Logged |

Well done and a most richly deserved honor. I have used your site many times as has a multitude of others. Hard work does pay off. IP: Logged |

Gee, thanks kids. I did sort of wonder what would become of it all. I assume they have found some cool, dark digital shelf space where they can tuck me for eternity. As I understand it, the site gets re-read and stored four times a year and is available to anyone doing research at the LOC or online. Past that, it just sits quietly, gathering virtual dust. Changes and enhancements are up to me or whoever gets saddled with it when I'm done. Which reminds me, I need to delete all those Céline Dion videos. . . IP: Logged |

I thought it was the "Céline Dion videos" that got them to take it?? Seriously, it is very reasuring to know that there may be some historical longevity in the digital age. Huge congrats - this is a recognition of all the long work - thank you. IP: Logged |

Thanks again, everyone, but a large measure of the credit goes to you and all the others who have so graciously assisted me, in substance and in spirit, during its decade of gestation. The balance of the credit goes to my wife who has resisted for so many years the temptation to strangle me in my sleep. IP: Logged |

From my point of view, it is all to your credit. I may have learned one or two things because of it, but otherwise it's the kind of thing that I couldn't even conceive. IP: Logged |

Congratulations, WEV. I've enjoyed perusing your listings and cannot fathom how you could ever get started on something like that and have it so organized. You are a national treasure. middletom IP: Logged |

This is an amazing thing--and given what the LoC has to deal with, an honor to have been chosen for archiving. Awesome. IP: Logged |
