I ran across this mark for the firm HYDE & GOODRICH with an interesting counter mark

I don't have a copy of Crescent City -- is this K in fancy brackets identified?

From Crescent City Silver:

quote:
The impressed “K” between scrolled brackets is the touchmark of Christopf Christian Küchler. Very little is known of Küchler. He first appears in the New Orleans city directories for 1852, and then in the short-lived partnership with Adolphe Himmel. He later formed a partnership with Bernard Terfloth in 1858. After the Civil War, he worked with August Jansen.

His correct first name appears in the death certificate of Küchler’s daughter on information given, sworn to, and subscribed by Küchler. His wife, Wilhelmine Schmidt Küchler, died on December 28, 1867, aged thirty-nine-years, ans was buied in Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans.

It is unlikely that Küchler at any time during his New Orleans career manufactured silver exclusively for Hyde & Goodrich. The impressed “C. Küchler” mark appears on a number of objects from a diminutive hollow handle cake trowel to a remarkably ornate fieman’s trumpet.

That means your piece, unlike many of Hyde & Goodrich's northern imports, was actually made in New Orleans. (I can tell you from experience that these pieces are far more desirable here than those made up north.) Küchler's pieces are noted for their subtle répoussé and engraved floral and rococo revival designs. How about a picture?
