Just for fun. Some old silver stuff from old Newark families. Four from a set of six teaspoons by Cary Dunn (who actually was a New Yorker, but fled during the Revolution and lived in Morristown and in Newark--hence our spoons, no doubt). These belonged to the Vanderpool/Vandyke families of Newark in the 18th century. Came to the Museum in 1921.
As did this table spoon--a single--by Thomas Colgan, a lesser-known NY silversmith. Nice right-handed wear!
And, finally, a covered sugar urn by sometime-NJ silversmith Daniel VanVoorhis--from a less clear old Newark family--it came with a teapot and creamer by John Vernon of NY--a nice example of "mix and match" silversmithing in the late 18th c.
