Here is a spoon that has me stumped. It certainly looks like a mid-nineteenth century American twist handle spoon. A large number of manufacturers made flatware of this type, in both coin and sterling. If I saw it without the marks, I would suspect it to be the work of Duhme & Co. of Cincinnati, OH, who made a lot of neat twisted flatware. There is a large pointed arch drop on the back of the bowl, which I beleive I have seen on some Duhme pieces. The mark, though, is completely unfamiliar. I suspect that D&M were the manufacturers, not just retailers, but I can't find any manufacturers with those intials. There are no recorded Duhme partnerships with anyone named M (That was my first thought). Any ideas? Anyone seen this mark before? Thanks! Brent IP: Logged |
