It’s quiet in the hotel tonight and I thought I would post pictures of a couple of cups/mugs from today’s shopping. I think I do have an addiction to children’s cups and think these must have been what parents and grandparents gave children in the 1850s instead of the iPods of today. The tall one is a footed example simply engraved ECL from FL. Footed examples are fairly unusual in children’s cups. The raised paneled pedestal area is attractive as is the twig like handle. It is not marked, but most likely was made in New York in the 1850s. The small one has a great inscription of “Charlie”. This one also has a depiction of a palm tree and fort like structure that may represent a scene from Puerto Rico or other tropical region. It is not marked, but again most likely was made in New York in the 1850s. IP: Logged |

Thanks Polly – the handle tipped the scales for me for buying this one. I love the twig pattern and for this cup its size is in correct proportion to the size of the cup. Some larger cups have handles that are simply too small and give an unbalanced look to the cup. I will post a picture of one when I get home. Your strainer with the pear shaped bowl also has a great twig handle. It could be that there are no unattractive twig handles. I think, but have no proof, that handles for many cups were made by one company and wholesaled to other manufacturers who then made the cup. IP: Logged |
