Bright-cut teaspoon marked BW. It came with a label saying it was by Bilious Ward, and I really want it to be by Bilious Ward, because who wouldn't want a spoon made by someone named Bilious????? But the bright-cutting looks too late for someone who died in 1777, right? Is it Barnabas Webb? Wev's site shows his mark with a pellet, and my spoon's mark doesn't have a pellet. Is mine c. 1790s? Thanks!

Belden states that Barnabas Webb also used “B.W.” in a rounded rectangle. If you can see the remains of the periods it may be a Webb spoon. There is also a Bernard E. Wenman (1789-1833) from New York. His mark h in Belden is very similar to your mark. Belden dates the brightcut from 1770 to 1800. Thanks! I think you're right, ahwt--it does look like Bernard E. Wenman's mark. IP: Logged |
