I have seen teaspoons and a sugar shovel with tipped, exaggerated fiddle-form handles (post 1830) with the mark "A. G. TUCKER". The handle described above is a typical Cincinnati area form, and there was a silversmith named Albert Tucker listed for one year (1842)in Cincinnati city directories, but I cannot be sure that Albert and A. G. were one and the same. I wonder if anyone knows anything about A.G. Tucker. Any help would be appeciated. IP: Logged |

Albert G. Tucker was a silversmith and jeweler at Lebanon OH till his death in 1858. He is listed as a silversmith there in the 1850 census. IP: Logged |

Thank you! Yes, I've just located A. G. Tucker (1821-1858)in the 1850 census. I also found that he is buried in Claiburne Cemetery, Richwood, Union County, OH. It is very tempting to believe that A. G. Tucker and Albert Tucker were the same. Have you come across documentation that prooves that A. G. Tucker's first name was Albert? Just curious. Many thanks! IP: Logged |

Yes, they are the same. Albert G. married Eliza Jane Evans and their son George was born in Cincinnati in 1845. They had moved to Lebanon by 1847, where their second son was born. Albert G. died there in 1858. Do you have a picture of his mark? I recently added him to my project and could use it. IP: Logged |

Yes, I do. Can I send it you by email? I've used your project many times. It is a wonderful resource. Thank you for all of this work! I am writing a book on Cincinnati silversmiths (1795-1930s). It will be published in the summer of 2014, in coordination with an exhibition at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Would you be willing to share citation information for the information in your last reply? Many thanks. IP: Logged |

one more thing... The 1842 Cincinnati city directory lists an Albert Tucker (ward 5), silversmith, boarding at Mrs. Gilliland's (Vine between 6th and 7th Street), as well as an Albert G. Tucker (ward 5), affiliated with Thompson & Tucker grocers, boarding at Miss P. Hanmer (6th between Lodge & Vine). IP: Logged |
