Here is a handsome little (4 3/8") spoon by an unidentified maker.
Ensko lists, in the unidentified maker section, a c 1725 rat tail tablespoon with the mark I.P.S. If this is the same person, this spoon must have been made near the end of his career, c 1760. A middle name, if that is what we have here, was still unusual in the 18th century, but I have no likely suspect. IP: Logged |

Or it could be a compound name such as was used in Quebec in the 18th C, like Jean-Baptiste Piquette and others. Something like (but not) Jean-Pierre StCroix. IP: Logged |
