Nice little coin teaspoon, marked SP. But which SP? There are several that look similar, and this one looks very much like at least two of them, but not exactly like either one (at least to me).

At a guess, I would opt for Saunders Pitman -- he had several initial marks and they have the same forward tilting S. IP: Logged |

Thanks, WEV. Seems similar to the mark on your site for Samuel Pancoast, too. What decade would you guess for this spoon? 1780s? IP: Logged |

Yes, 1780s/1790s. Pancoast is a possible, but everything I have seen of his carries quite elegantly cut monograms. Pitman's, on the other hand, while not unattractive, always look a little naive and provincial. [This message has been edited by wev (edited 03-18-2013).] IP: Logged |
