Above is a miniature sugar tongs that measures just 2 ¾” long. They appear to be identical to other bright cut tongs of the late 1700s and early 1800s; except of course for the length. The mark W.G is similar to that shown in Early Connecticut Silver 1700-1840 for William Gurley. Similar, but not quite the same. None of the other W G marks that I have seen include a dot between the W and the G.

Any ideas would be appreciated and also how common was it to make miniature tongs in this time period. Could they have been for a child’s tea set?

Photobucket is not as easy to use as in the past. Does anyone have an alternate site?
