[19-1518] I treated myself to a fine, used copy of J.R McGrew's book for Christmas and have spent hours enjoying going through our coin silver. One cream ladle has an incomplete two part mark that I am trying to decipher. It is poorly stamped. I believe the top stamp might be a figural (Indian?) per McGrew page XXIII. I am viewing it vertically. The figure seems to have arms and to the objects to the right are circles reminiscent of grapes or perhaps leaves? It is poorly struck and the left side of the mark is missing. The perimeter of the mark is an unusual shape. It is not a simple geometric rectangle, triangle, or circle shape. It appears like it might be half a crown? The other mark which is is below this mark is also poorly struck and appears to be a D. There are no marks on the piece. Any guesses as to who made this cream ladle? IP: Logged |
