This is a typical bird back spoon from the early 1800s and from Abner Reeder when he lived in either Philadelphia or Trenton. From what I have seen Mr. Reeder started in Philadelphia with a partnership with John McFee and then by himself for a short time before moving to Trenton, NJ. quote:The inscription is “D Barclay Co. D PB”. Others, better than me at deciphering inscriptions, suggested that the PB may stand for Philadelphia Battalion and the D may be a Delancey Barclay or a David Barclay. I suspect I will never be able to pin down the actual owner unless other spoons pop up with better provenance. [This message has been edited by Mod assistant (edited 02-19-2024).] IP: Logged |
