My daughter is getting ready to register for silver (she is getting married Sept. 23) and is probably going to get Gorham Fairfax. We get very confused looking at various web sites and place settings. We need to see exactly what the salad and desert fork look like. My silver is Etruscian (also Gorham)
and I use a lunch fork for desert.

How do we determine what is available and correct?

It is not easy to find photos of specific pieces on the web. We show some complete settings for specific patterns in this forum usually to illustrate some artistic or historic point, but we are by no means all inclusive. Sites like Silverwarehouse.com show pictures of the pattern, but not the entire piece. I am not sure where you live but since Fairfax is still being produced there are better quality stores like Geary's in Bev. Hills that would have complete place settings available on display. Also there are silver dealers at every decent antique show who would likely have samples. Drop in to any local antique store and they should have information on upcoming shows. Another source is Eden Sterling (800)385-3336 who have copies of old catalogs at around $20. If you want just an outline image to see the difference between a salad fork and a dessert fork in a pattern call Replacements Limited 1(800)REPLACE and ask them to fax you a xerox copy of the pieces.
