I'm wondering if anyone knows much about the Mt. Vernon Silver Co. (which I believe was purchased by Mauser)? I have a silver-gilt Mt. Vernon dessert service (stamped with a unicorn and the words "sterling 925 1000 fine") in a fruit motif, and I would like to find out more about the pattern, as well as the Mt. Vernon company. Are there any good books or websites? I've had trouble finding any info about Mt. Vernon...

Thanks!

According to Tere Hagan- "Sterling Flatware"
Mount Vernon was formed in 1903 as the merger of several silversmiths including Mauser, Roger Williams, Knowles and Howard Sterling. They were purchased by Gorham in 1913. There are many beautiful Mount Vernon Patterns. They are very well documented in Tere Hagan's book which is one of the major Silver Flatware references.

Thanks for your help! I'll look for the book. Do you know if there is any type of collectors market for Mt. Vernon silver? I get the impression it's not highly sought-after...

Well it's not Shiebler or Tiffany but we do include Josephine (Howard Sterling) 1899 and Corinthian (Roger Williams) 1891 in our turn of the century place setting collection, and and we have always admired Adolphus and Yetive. Because it is a merger you may find these pieces listed under Howard Sterling and Roger Williams rather than Mt. Vernon.
