I was wondering what other people's experiences have been with coin shops. Every town seems to have a shop that sells coins, usually in conjunction with something else like stamps, baseball cards, sports memorabilia, guns, etc. They usually also claim to buy and sell silver, gold, jewelry, scrap, etc. You know the place. Anyway, has anyone else ever made a good buy at one of these places? I have lucked out a couple times in the past, and I recently found a local coin shop with a nice selection of coin silver at good prices. On the other hand, my usual experience is that silver ware is more of a sideline with this kind of business, and that prices are higher than normal. I also get the sinking feeling that silver that doesn't sell gets scrapped. What do you think? Do you go to coin shops looking for silver, or do you shy away from them? IP: Logged |
