Here is a story for you, which happened to a collector of English silver I met. I'm not sure I have it all correct, but it is too good to pass up. This collector was visiting a woman in England who had a great collection of Englsh silver in her family. She told the collector that somewhere she had some silver by the greatest woman silversmith of all time, but she couldn't remember the woman's name. The collector asked, "Do you mean Hester Bateman?" to which she replied, "No, that's not it. It's someone else, someone very famous." The collector proceeded to rattle off the names of all of the female silversmiths he could think of, to no avail, with increasing frustration. Finally, the woman's face lit up, and she said, "Now I remember. It's Paula Lamerie!" IP: Logged |
