HI, I recently purchased a silver sugar and creamer. The stamp on the bottom says Poole Silver-Tautnon MA. Can anyone give me some kind of history on this item Thank You IP: Logged |

Hello, Sorry I did not get to this thread more quickly! As Scott pointed out, there are a few previous forum threads regarding this company, which you can find using the search function. Briefly, Poole Silver Company was founded in 1893 and was purchased by Towle in 1971. They started out making silverplate, and added a line of sterling silver in 1946. They also made a significant amount of pewter and brass wares. All of their pieces seem to be of good quality. Because your pieces are not marked STERLING or PEWTER, it is safe to assume that they are silverplated. As to the age, a picture of the pieces and the mark MIGHT help, but not necessarily. I hope this helps somewhat! Brent IP: Logged |
