[20-0081] Recently I found this tea glass holder in lacquered silver-gilt with a nice scene of a troika sledge ride in winter. This kind of surface is very hard to find because 100 years and more of use or better misuse destroyed the delicate paintings. The tea glass holder was made by Morozow Ivan Yefimowich. Trade House. The firm was established in 1849 in St. Petersburg by Ivan Yefimowich Morozow (1825-1885), later a hereditary honorary citizen, merchant of the first guild and chevalier. The business was continued by his son Vladimir Ivanovich until 1917 (revolution). The title of Court Supplier was confirmed in January 15, 1894. Specialization: besides jeweler goods, table silver to the Court. Fulfilled many commissions for the Cabinet and was one of the best firms in Russia. For the firm worked the masters T. Tiander, A. I. Senpenen, W. I. Kangin and others.

Sazikov, Have you ever considered writing a book on Russian hallmarks in English? For those of us who don't read Russian it would be a great conrtibution! Tom [This message has been edited by tmockait (edited 08-10-2005).] IP: Logged |

tmockait- years ago I wrote two books on Russian and Baltic cigarette cases. If you seriously collect Russian or Baltic silver, email, niello etc. you have to travel in the countries, speak with people, visit museums, read books - in one word you have to learn the language as fast as you can. Than you find in books, already written, nearly all the informations you need. The rest is pure fun. There is no crashcourse in identifying Russian or Baltic silver - unfortunately. Yes, I am aware of that and have had great fun with Russian and other sivler while traveling in Eastern Europe. I am also aware how scarce good resources are and the impossiblity of learning every language. The academic in me encourages people with particular and unique knowledge to write about it. (Perhaps its a bad haibt). Anyway, I meant the suggestion as a compliment. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us! Tom IP: Logged |
