[26-1063] Guess this should have been under the heading, Tales of a Braggert, however I cannot resist. Today I had a really fun day of Treasure hunting. Something told me to revisit a store that I had already gone to today...... so little ones in tow we headed back. One of the clerks told me, "don't think there is anything new, nothing that you will like." hmmmmm That same little voice told me, "go look anyhow, you are already here" Well much to my surprise I found a bag of "junk" silver. So this 2 gal ziplock bag went back to my office with us. Among the silver plate (flatware serving pieces & a cream/sugar set, 2 small trays),were 7 sterling napkin rings, a sterling candle holder, a sterling compote, 2 sterling souvenirs(fork and spoon)a sterling baby spoon, and a Tiffany sterling tomato server the St Dunstan pattern (if research serves me right) Please forgive me for bragging but I am still kinda excited. Do you have an interesting or exciting find story to tell? IP: Logged |

Congratulations on your good fortune - it always pays to look. You have full posting privileges as a member - you need not be initiating posts in this forum. This one would have been better located in the Silver Stories Forum. You can post a picture of your tomato server if you want confirmation, either in this thread or a new one in the new American Sterling Forum, where Tiffany posts are now being directed. Again, congratulations. IP: Logged |

That's a nice piece. I'd like to see them all, too. I went to an antiques show a couple weeks ago and there was this guy who had just hordes of plated flatware strewn all over two bedpreads. People were just sifting and sifting through it. I couldn't face it, it was too much. I think I'd much rather buy a bag of unknowns and see what I got. It sounds like fun. IP: Logged |

Venus! Just beautiful! I believe your pattern assumption is correct. Great shot using the magnifying glass for the mark. How big is the spoon...I'm asking since it might be a different kind of server. Jersey IP: Logged |

ty jersey It is 8" long and 3 1/4" wide thereabouts for both figures. Yes, indeed I would like to know about what it may be. That pattern had about 8 pages of serving peices for this pattern. yikes Got a R&B gravy ladle today. Looks like maybe a thistle pattern. Really interested to start the hunt for it. Most probably s/p as all it has is R&B. One of the clerks just walked up and placed it in my hand. How nice is that? IP: Logged |

Your Tiffany piece is definitely a tomato server. See the book Tiffany Silver Flatware, 1845-1905: When Dining Was an Art, Fig. 231, p. 158. IP: Logged |

Nice replies you all. I will try and take pictures of the rest of the things and send them. That book sounds really really nice Jersey. Thank you for the suggestion Mr Hood. Thou without a doubt I own one of the few if not the only piece of Tiffany silver in this town. For a fact there are none for sale here on the open market. The serving piece I got came to the store from outside the area. OK here is the rest of the "loot"

Great find Venus. Here is what I can tell you: in the first picture first picture, the pie server is Orange Blossom, given away with sunkist oranges. The berry shell with the gold bowl is Rockford's Rosemary, the other is Oxford which was a premium with Banner Buggies. All of these are preWW1. IP: Logged |

You all impress me, so much to catch up on in my education. Just started collecting in Nov of 2004. Dale very nice help, you sure are fast on identification. Next week, if not before I am going to show the souviner spoon in greater detail. Got a feeling it is nice. Maybe I will have more information when I do. IP: Logged |
