According to a New York Times article, thanks to the dogged pursuit by the retired detective who first arrested him in New Jersey 1983, the nation's most notorious antique silver thief, Blane Nordahl, whose 30 year career of selective silver burglaries was caught - again - this last Monday after being paroled in 2010 from his most recent sentence and resuming his obsession of carefully selecting mostly wealthy Old Southern homes (most recently in Atlanta) which housed famous artifacts or collections, and removing them in the dead of night. This "burglar to the stars" had used a network of fences over the years to dispose of his acquisitions, few if any of which have ever been recovered. Among the stolen objects were mentioned silver spoons by Paul Revere and a 1734 silver mug that had belonged to King George II. IP: Logged |
