I inherited a Meriden Teapot..I am trying to find anything out about it I can. On the bottom it is stamped " MERIDEN B. COMPANY 1867". The legs are mounted with lions heads and has what looks to be an Indian Head on the handle.

Hello,

I took a quick look in our 1886 Meriden Britannia catalog but didn't see your Teapot. Most of the teapots/sets in the catalog had a part number like 19xx. I would suspect that the 1867 may not be a date but it is the part number.

I used the Silver Salon Forums search function to search the General Silver Forum for Meriden. The following search results may be of interest and/or answer your questions.

Let us know if this helps.

Rainwater/Felger's book "American Silverplate" shows a page from the 1867 Meriden Britannia Co. catalog with a spoon holder of the same design as your teapot.

Since spoon holders were often made to match tea services, I would say that the design (if not the teapot as well) dates to that time or perhaps even earlier.

The catalog pages showing teapots (not in the book mentioned above) could be a source of additional information.
