I have a tarnished tea pot, coffee pot, creamer and sugar bowl. with heart like pattern around top border and the tops of all the legs have what look like lion faces.as they are very tarnished the only thing I can read of the bottom are the numbers 2209 which appear on all the pieces.any Ideas would be wonderful I also have a very ornate tray that was silver over copper but someone tried to clean it can it be refurbished to silver again? Silver plate can be replated. You might try asking a good jewelry store that sells silver, however, I'm not sure that it would be worth it depending on the piece. You can use a bit of toothpaste if you don't have silver polish on hand and just rub it over the marks with your finger and see if you can see more of a mark. IP: Logged |

The bottom of the tray reads "silver on copper" wrapped areound the symbol of a lion......as far as I can tell the tea service looks to read "middle town plate co" "triple plate" IP: Logged |

The mark on the tray sounds like the Lehman Brothers Silverware Corp. (New York City), 1920s to 1970s. The legs and the marks on the tea set seem to indicate pieces made between the late 1860s and early 1870s. The Middletown Plate Co. (Middletown, Connecticut) was incorporated in 1866 and became part of the International Silver Co. in 1899. Both firms were manufacturers of silverplated holloware. thank you, should I have the tea pieces cleaned or is that not done. They at this point are pretty ugly. Also is it a good idea to have the copper tray restored? It really is a beautiful piece. Happy holidays. IP: Logged |
