I have acquired silver from my great-great grandmother's collection. It is silver plated. The stamp on the back reads Rogers Bros. 1847. It has acorns and oak leaves on the handle. Could you help me with the pattern name and year. Thanks! IP: Logged |

The pattern name is "Charter Oak", introduced in 1906. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the info. Is there any more to know about this pattern, or the silver in general? I know very little about silver but I'd like to take good care of this family heirloom. IP: Logged |

In 1906 (and subsequently), the "1847 Rogers Bros." trademark was owned by the International Silver Co. If your pieces were made before 1918, they should also be marked "XS Triple", "XII XS Triple", or "XS Quintuple". A description of these marks, their history, and their meanings, can be found in Dorothy Rainwater & Judy Redfield's "Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers." Frances M. Bones & Lee Roy Fisher's "The Standard Encyclopedia of American Silverplate Flatware and Hollow Ware, Identification & Value Guide" contains information on this pattern which may be of interest to you, as well as reproductions of 1913 catalog pages showing many of the place setting and serving pieces that were being made at that time. Hope this helps! IP: Logged |
