I have found a very nice, if not in need of a little tlc serving tray....tea , coffee , ? who knows, but it has a registered hallmark but i have been unable to determine from or who it is from. It is silver over copper, with a crown ( the crown is like five rolls of dots with what looks like a cross on top )....it has the letters B.S.C on it in old english type lettering.. the "C" is questionable because it am unsure of the writting , could perhaps be a "G" !?!? HELP ME PLEASE! DESIGN TYPE: the design is like scholls with scalloped shells on the four corners....it sits on feet with like flowers and folliage. the handles are kind of like scrollish with shells underneath. The maker's mark indicates that your silverplate serving tray was made by the Birmingham Silver Co., Inc. This firm operated in Yalesville, Connecticut at least from 1957 to 1974. (according to Rainwater - 3rd Ed.) ------------------ IP: Logged |

That is great that you knew this info......now on to the next question at hand......" In you opinion, is this peice as far as value worth refinishing?" And "How would I go about finding a suitable person to carry this job out?" Even if it is not valueable it is a beautiful peice.... I only gave $2.00 for it at a "going -out- of - business sale....i had origially planned to paint it silver just for decoration purposes....Thank you for your information and sny further help you can offer....Sincerely, AA in Madison , Indiana IP: Logged |

What do you mean by refinishing? Is it just black with tarnish, or is the copper showing through in many places? You could try looking up in your yellow pages for someone who does silver repair and silver replating. If not, an internet search should turn up firms farther away from you. They could best judge your options after viewing your tray in person. Then you can decide if the expense of refurbishing your tray is worth it. Generally, re-silverplating is fairly costly in this country due to EPA regulations. And also replating an old item will not return it to "mint" condition again. IP: Logged |
