I have just started collecting, I guess you'd say, silver pieces. I am one of those accidental collectors because it is not something I set out to do but now find I am into the collecting process of the craft. I have been able to identify all the sets of flatware I have except two patterns. I don't know how to put up pictures nor can I find where it tells you how to.

Anyway, one set (serving set only) has the eagle, Wm Rogers, the star, A1 and IS as the mark on the back.

The other piece I have is a gravy ladle I assume. It is Oneida Community Silverplate and is a very simple pattern. If you can tell me how to put up pictures I will get them up and then, hopefully, you can help me find the pattern name and from what time period they came. I do appreciate the help.

Thank you so much!

Here are the pictures:

I am sorry but I could not get the picture to come up on the BB. The first 3 images on the page are the Oneida Community Silverplate and the last 3 are the Wm Rogers.
The Wm Rogers has the eagle and the star which does not show up in the picture and then A1 IS. Thanks and I am sorry I can't get the other way to work.

Good morning, and welcome to the Forums!

Your gravy ladle is in the "Winsome" pattern, introduced in 1959. "Community" is the top "brand" in the Oneida silverplate line.

The Rogers pattern is "Cotillion", introduced in 1937. A1 is a mark of silverplate quality, and IS stands for International Silver Company. International was formed in 1898 when a large number of silverplate manufacturers, including several different "Rogers" companies, joined forces. The individual company names, including William Rogers, continued to be used by International Silver as trade names, and some are still used today, even though the actual companies ceased to exist years ago.

I hope this makes sense. Please continue to ask questions; we aim to please!

One thing for sure, these are not collectable except to me. I guess that is why I could not find them on the web biggrin

Flatware patterns, whether sterling or plated, are always interesting--because America consumed (and consumes) more different patterns than any country in the history of human culture. Of course, it is not always possible to know the names, and certainly not this little curator. Good thing there are other experts out there who know where to look...
