I recently inherited my Grandmothers silver. I am curious to find out any info available. The back of the silverware states: WM Rogers Mfg Co.-Extra Plate-Original Rogers. The pattern seems to be a rose pattern. There are a few pieces missing but all is in the original, wooden box (McGraw Tarnish Proof silver chest). I'm really curious about the year this was made in. For most of my 35 years I remember this on her shelf. IP: Logged |

If you are 35, and your grandmother recently passed away, I am guessing that she received this silver around sixty years ago--or in the late 1930s. William Rogers is an old firm, one of about a million firms with the name Rogers in it, all of which manufactured silver plated wares. It became part of International Silver early in the 20th century, but the trade name might have continued on for many years. But everything you say about it, the rose pattern, the special wooden chest, all point to a making date close to when your grandparents married. It could be as early as the 'teens, or as late as the 'forties. IP: Logged |

Thank you for your quick response to my inquiry! I never really asked her how she acquired the silverware, but my assumption was it had been a wedding gift which would coincide with your time period. Although I have wondered if it had belonged to my great grandmother. One will never know. However, I do appreciate your help. A wonderful holiday season to you and yours. IP: Logged |
