I have a water pitcher, on the bottom of this silver piece is the word Trade mark and a picture of what looks to be like a crown. It also has F.B. Silver Company and the # 3707, the date reads 1883. Can anyone tell me what this is and what it may be worth? it is in near excellent condition. Thank you IP: Logged |

I cannot find F.B. Silver Company in Rainwater, but your piece is most likely a 20th-century plated example by a company that may (or may not) have been founded in 1883. It is not a date. The other number is the form number, and was only helpful to the factory owner when the piece was in production. Plated silver is certainly collection, but its worth depends entirely on style and condition. There is another part of the salon forums where you can prowl for a value--since curators are forbidden by law from appraising. Good luck. IP: Logged |

Hi, I am sure it is actually the F.B. Rogers Silver Company, prolific producers of silverplate. It was founded in 1883, became a division National Silver Co. in 1955, and was still in business as late as 1975. They used a crown as their trademark. Water pitchers tend to be desirable, as many people like to have one to use. As Ulysses said, value will largely depend on style and condition. We do not give exact values here, but you can try looking at eBay to see what similar pieces are selling for. When doing comparisons, remember that the maker will be less important than the style, size and condition. I hope this helps! Brent IP: Logged |
