I have a coffeepot, sugar bowl and creamer that have the words "silver on copper" engraved on the bottom, as well as three marks - a crown, the letter S, and a coat of arms. Is this possibly the "Sheffield Plate" I have been reading about? Any idea as to the age of the set? Any and all comments will be appreciated. IP: Logged |

The mark as described is the Sheridan Silver Company of Taunton MA, begun in 1946. They only make silver plated holloware. [Changed Tautnon to Taunton, and 1944 to 1946]

Normally, these marks are stamped, not engraved. Are you sure they're engraved? IP: Logged |
