I'm trying to date & identify the silver- plated flatware that I have. If anyone could help I would be greatful. The original gold foil seal: "Only the international siver company makes original rogers silverplate," has 3 small pictures of Rogers Brothers in red & gold foil, with the IS Mark in red & gold also. It makes no reference to "1847 rogers." The silverplate: on back of flatware is:A StarROGERS&BRO. then: REINFORCED PLATE IS I also have not been able to identify the pattern: on front, which carries through to the back, but not as detailed as design on front: at top of handle, a lavish floral motif coming to somewhat of a point. A large rose is in the center of leaves & at the top of the rose, are 2 different flowers, with leaves on top of these flowers coming to the point. This floral motif is atop a scroll ended pedestal, a small stem of the large rose seems to go down between the center of the scrolls & on each side of the pedestal is a small section of trailing leafy decor. At base on front is a single rose, flanked by a small leaf pattern. I have had the set for 27 years, after inheriting it from a great aunt. Rogers & Bro. is different from 1847 Rogers. International silver owned both of them, but they were different companies to start. I cannot find a pattern that matches yours, although from what you describe about the set and its original foil seals, we're probably talking a pattern produced in the 1920s, when electroplate patterns proliferated tremendously. Maybe a picture would make it easier, but I don't know if there are books with more current (i.e. 20th century) plated pattern names. They all had wonderful romantic names... IP: Logged |
