E.G. Webster of Brooklyn started a small manufacturing business in 1859. In 1873, the firm became E.G. Webster & Bros. and in 1886 became E.G. Webster & Son. The firm was sold to International Silver Co. in 1928 and moved to Meriden, Conn. Their main line was silverplated holloware made on German silver (containing no silver). In 1961, the trademark was changed to Webster-Wilcox which continued until 1981 when the business was sold to Oneida Silversmiths. You mentioned that your items are identified as "quadrupleplate". Rainwater shows the "W" and star superimposed on a spider web, but seems to relate that mark to sterling silver. Still, it sounds supiciously like the same manufacturer. ------------------ IP: Logged |
