I have a tray with a large crown followed by Old English letters S B T P (I think)in their own squares. This hallmark is unknown to me and does not seem to match any other silver or silverplate pieces we just inherited. Any ideas as to the manufacturer? Thank you in advance for any help. These are clearly the pseudo-hallmarks of an electroplater. I hope someone out there recognizes the initials as one of the myriad American electroplaters who flourished in the late 19th century. It could possibly be English, because the marks are imitative of English sterling marks. IP: Logged |

Thanks you so much. I beleive this will be sold. Where can I find out which American electroplater? So as to price and represent it correctly, in the Estate Sale. It is an extremely heavy, ornate, piece-around 14 pounds. Thanks you again for your knowledge and response!!! IP: Logged |

I'm afraid museums can't help when it comes to monetary values. The value on a piece like this depends on its looks and its condition, not its weight (base metal is cheap, so the weight of electroplate is irrelevant!). The maker is not a "famous" one, so it really isn't important. You might check on eBay to see what electroplated trays are going for. IP: Logged |
