I'm trying to find out if a silver teapot that was given to me has any value. Its about 9 inches tall etched w/flowers on lid, pot and spout and a lions head on the handle.
the marking on the bottom says

Meriden The emblem looks like
B-Company scale of justice

Your pot was made by the Meriden Britannia Company of Meriden, CT. They were probably the most prolific manufacturers of silverplate holloware in the US prior to 1898. They were one of the companies which joined forces to form International Silver Co. in 1898, although they continued to use their own trademark for many years. Your mark is older, and I suspect your pot will date from the 1880's or 1890's.

Your pot does have some value, although we do not give actual valuations in these forums. The value will depend on the quality of the design and condition. If all or most of the silver plating is intact, and there are few or no dents, then it will be regarded as desirable by silverplate collectors. If the plating is significantly worn through (i.e. you can see the dull gray base metal, which is actually britannia, a hard pewter alloy), it will require restoration and replating. This process is expensive, and usually only worthwhile if the piece has great visual interest.

I hope this helps somewhat. If you can post a picture, we might be able to tell you more about it. If you are interested in getting a value, try finding similar items on eBay, in similar condition, and see what they sell for.
