I am interested in finding out more about this company. How long was it independent? When did International Silver take over? How long did International Silver still use their name? Also I have a plate that is marked also W.H.Morris. Is there any info on him and Derby IP: Logged |

Boyd, For the next week or so, my schedule is such that I may not be able to completely answer your question. Maybe someone else will chime in. Meanwhile, please see these previous posts on Derby: IP: Logged |

Here are a few more facts for you. 1.) The Derby Silver Co. was founded in 1873, and operated independently until 1898. International silver did not "take over" Derby. Rather, Derby entered into partnership with a large number of other firms to form the conglomerate known as International Silver Co. 2.) They intially concentrated on flatware production, and only developed extensive holloware lines later on. 3.) As Scott has noted, the Derby operations were consolidated to Meriden in 1933. I would guess that the Derby Silver Co. marks were discontinued about then. 4.) I'm not sure I can help you with W.H. Morris. Is it a mark on the bottom, or a monogram? If it is a mark, could it be W.M. Mounts? W.M. Mounts means White Metal Mounts , referring to the construction of the piece. If it is W.H. Morris, it might be a designers name. Hope this helps!
