I have a child's cup.. My mother says it was my great grandfathers and that it came from England. It is the cutest little cup it has a rabbit running through the grass on the front and the back. On the top of the handle is a call and in the swirl of the bottom of the handle is a birdand on the other side of the bird is a fish. The cup appears to be silver and yet it appears to be pewter. On the bottom is the number 132 and in the large circle is Meriden B Company and within that large circle is a small circle witha picture of scales. I have searched for many hours trying to find out about this cup and what its value is. If someone could help me I would be most grateful...

Thank You in Advance
Dawn

Dawn, your cup is silverplated. The company that made it was Meriden Britannia Company operating in Meriden, CT. It was likely silverplated on Britannia metal, a pewter-like base metal (not to be confused with the Britannia standard of silver). The design sounds great! It is probably from the 1880s.

We do not give values on this forum, but many people collect silverplate, as well as kids' items. In addition, the unusual design will help its value. Condition of silverplate is very important. The value will be lowered if any plate is missing, or if there are noticeable signs of age/use (e.g. wear to the design, dents, etc.). Also, silverplate is intrinsically less valuable than solid silver.

Hope this helps!
