I was in Alice springs Australia 5 years ago and saw this beautiful, but slightly damaged water jug that states 220 Silver Plated by Barton and Reed, Patented May 14, 1878 It has a filter as if it were stoping tea leave, but the top screws off--the hinge is broken and it has a design around the topi and bottom with a sunflower pattern in the silver....Just curious if anyone knows anything about a piece like this--about 10 inches higih and 5 inches in diameter....and of all things--what was an American piece of Silver doing in the outback in 1878?
