Does anybody recognise the maker on this enchanting old teapot please? At least, I think it is a teapot because it has the orignal strainer bag and the holes on the inside at the spout. I have been through my small book of English makers but just cannot locate - or even decipher - the maker. Thank you all in advance. IP: Logged |

It looks like one of several different marks attributed to Walker or Walker & Hall of Sheffield (The first letter is definitely a W). According to George Mappin's book of silverplate marks, you mark was used from 1852-1897. I am intrigued by the PATENT HANDLE mark. Is the handle unusual in any way? Brent IP: Logged |

Thank you Brent, Walker and Hall were my first thought but I could not find any marks for them with the Old English letters or the S on the end. I will add a couple more pictures, so you can see the handle. It also has the strainer bag with it still - I have not seen one of these before but what a neat idea! IP: Logged |

That looks to me like a coffeepot rather than a teapot. Both because of its height and form and because that bag is, I believe, a type of old-fashioned coffee filter. IP: Logged |

Coffee pot was my first assumption too, for exactly those reasons. The bag threw me somewhat and the spout itself. Do not teapots have the round holes over the spout INSIDE the pot? I have always thought that coffee pots had a clear exit spout and the teapots had the round holes. Can someone clarify this for me please? IP: Logged |
