I recently found this beautiful tray. The engraving is really exquisite. The lake scenes go all the way up the inner edge. The only mark I can find is HS Co. and the style number. I have not been able to find anything on this company. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Becki IP: Logged |

HI It looks like it could be from the Hemill Silverware Inc. Company of NY,NY D. Rainwater lists them as having been in buisines from 1920-1930, but she is unclear as to wether they where manufacturers or silver platers. They also marked things Sheffield HS Co. Check with one of the newer versions of "Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufactures" as I could only find my old edition, #1. IP: Logged |

Thank you Louise! I will see if they have the newer copy at the library. I could not find it in the one I have either. Becki IP: Logged |

There are quite a few posts in the forums pertaining to American silverplate with Dutch scenes. IP: Logged |

The latest edition of Rainwater (1998), as well as the second edition (1975), lists this company as Hemill Silverware Inc. of New York, New York. She is still unclear as to whether or not they were manufacturers or just silverplaters. [This message has been edited by Stephen (edited 06-11-2003).] IP: Logged |
