Hello. I have two silverplate sugar bowl and creamer sets that I have had the "darndest" time identifying. The pictures don't show very well - so I drew them. (please don't laugh...)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If you have already answered this a half dozen times I do apologize, as I did try the SEARCH function first, but nothing for these hallmarks. IP: Logged |

No laughs here, your drawing is excellent. The marks on the left are those of the Homan Manufacturing Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio. They were in business from some time between 1904 and 1915, and out of business in 1941. The marks indicate that the items are electroplated nickel silver (E.P.N.S.) with white metal mounts (W.M. M'T'S). The mounts could be handles, feet, or any applied trim. The "Sheffield Design" refers to Sheffield, England where about 90% of English silverplate was manufactured. Whether or not the set was actually designed there could be difficult to determine, impossible without photos. The "0612" is a stock number. Hope this helps. Does anyone recognize the mark on the right? IP: Logged |

There was also a lot of use of the name Sheffield, simply because it was a name that people associated with good "plated" silver. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Stephen (edited 04-23-2003).] IP: Logged |
